Jeremy McWilliams’ win in Supertwin Race 2 on the 2026 Northwest 200 was “fairly unbelievable,” he admits.
McWilliams led from begin to end within the second Tremendous Twin race on Saturday (Could 9), changing into the primary individual over 60 to win Northern Eire’s greatest street race.
The previous Grand Prix racer had not received a Northwest 200 race since 2019. Race 1 on Saturday almost ended his drought, however he was handed by Peter Hickman on the ultimate lap and didn’t notice the top of the race had been reached. So profitable Race 2 introduced a way of morning redemption and eventually ended McWilliams’ seven-year look forward to a fourth Northwest 200 Tremendous Twin win.
“I have been ready for this race for some time,” McWilliams instructed BBC Sport NI after Supertwin Race 2.
“(The bike) has been excellent all week, so I’m proud of that.
“I have been ready for it for some time. This morning I assumed it was there after which I used to be caught napping and Peter (Hickman) stole it from me.
“I used to be wanting again pondering, ‘The place are they? They have to be right here,’ however I stored my head down, made a number of errors and did a little bit motocross in entrance of the digital camera (referring to once I hit the curb on the exit of the chicane after the end).
“I could not be happier. I have been chasing extra wins for some time and (everybody) retains saying, ‘The older you get, the tougher you get.’
“So this can be a message to everybody who believed in me.”
This victory got here almost 25 years after McWilliams received the 250cc Grand Prix race at Assen in 2001, one thing even McWilliams discovered tough to grasp.
“It is fully unbelievable,” he mentioned.
“Standing on high of the rostrum (on the North West 200) will really feel pretty much as good because it did on the Grand Prix in Assen. I had to consider that for a second!”
“It should really feel good in each method.
“I’ve all the time mentioned that. Being on the rostrum, particularly on the highest step at Northwest, might be the perfect feeling ever.”
