BLAINE, Minn. — PGA Tour newcomer Jackson Koibun shot a 61 within the third spherical of the 3M Open on Saturday to take a three-shot lead at 20 underneath, setting a brand new event report with a 28 on the again 9 at TPC Twin Cities.
Emiliano Grillo and Ben Corless every shot a 65 to tie for second place at 17 underneath. Michael Brennan shot a 63 to share fourth place with Chandler Phillips at 16 underneath. Denny McCarthy, Billy Horschel and Michael Kim completed in sixth place at 15 underneath.
World top-ranked Scottie Scheffler completed ninth in a four-way tie with Davis Thompson, Sheamus Energy, and Brian Harman, six strokes behind Koibun.
The 21-year-old Koibun, who turned a top-ranked beginner after a profitable school profession at Auburn College and turned professional final month after the U.S. Open, pulled away from the pack with two eagles and 6 birdies on a moist, quiet afternoon excellent for low scores.
Koibun sank a 12-foot putt on the twelfth inexperienced and a 14-foot putt on the 18th, eagling two of the three par 5s on the lakeside course, which has been on the tour schedule since 2019. Koibun, who tied for tenth on the ISCO Championship in Kentucky two weeks in the past, shot a 64 on Thursday and a 68 on Friday.
