This weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix will see the return of F1’s dash format.
The third of six dash races for the 2026 season will happen this weekend, Could 22-24, at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal throughout the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.
It will likely be the primary time a dash race has been held in Montreal because the format was launched in F1 in 2021.

How does the format work?
Dash qualifying will happen after an hour of follow on Friday.
Just like common qualifying, dash qualifying will include three periods. These are referred to as SQ1, SQ2, and SQ3 and final for 12, 10, and eight minutes.
The six slowest drivers shall be eradicated in SQ1 and SQ2, with the remaining 10 drivers combating for pole place and setting grid positions 1-10 in SQ3.
The dash race shall be held on Saturday and shall be contested over 100km. Shortened races usually final about half-hour.
Factors are distributed from 1st to eighth place: 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
No factors shall be awarded for pole place or setting the quickest lap.
The Canadian Grand Prix dash race shall be held on Saturday, Could twenty third at 5pm UK time and shall be 23 laps lengthy.
Mercedes’ George Russell gained the primary dash race of the season on the Chinese language Grand Prix, and final time in Miami, present world champion Lando Norris led a dominant McLaren one-two.

China and Miami will host a dash format for the third consecutive season, whereas Canada will host a dash race for the primary time after Zandvoort and Singapore.
Silverstone will return to the Dash calendar for the primary time since internet hosting the inaugural occasion in 2021.
Probably the most profitable driver within the dash format so far is Max Verstappen, with 13 wins.
