LONDON — Serena Williams will face 20-year-old Maya Joynt of Australia within the first spherical of Wimbledon in her first singles match in almost 4 years.
The 44-year-old, a seven-time Wimbledon singles champion, has accepted a wildcard entry into the grass-court Grand Slam and also will compete in doubles along with her sister Venus, who turned 46 final week.
It is all a part of a tennis comeback that began with two warm-up doubles matches, however kicked into gear on Sunday when the All England Membership introduced Serena would play singles.
Williams has not performed a singles match since shedding within the third spherical to Ajla Tomljanovic on the 2022 US Open.
